Mangaluru's first female-produced Konkani film to start work in October

Mangaluru, Sept 12: The muhurtha ceremony for the new movie produced under the banner of Janet Productions - 'Sophiya, A dream girl'- was held in hotel Deepa Comforts on Monday, September 12.
The MLA of Mangaluru south constituency, JR Lobo and Chief whip of Karnataka legislative council, Ivan D’Souza, uncovered the banner of the movie as a part of the muhurtha.
The movie is being produced by Janet Noronha, mother of the famous movie actress Esther, for her daughter's birthday.
Speaking on the occasion JR Lobo said, "The dedication Esther has shown to this industry will raise her to great heights. The effort by Janet must be appreciated by everyone, as there are very few female movie producers in the industry."
Ivan D’Souza speaking on the occasion said, "I know Esther ever since her childhood and was one of the guests for her Rangapravesha. The heights she scaled today, in her profession, is due to her hard work as a child, and the support of her mother. Our community is proud of her achievements."
"Its a golden era for Konkani as many movies come up and taste success. We must all support the producers of the movie by watching it in theatres. I wish luck to Janet Noronha and the film crew," said Roy Castelino, the president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.
Richard Castelino of ‘Bangar Patler' fame, called for all Konkani producers to work in support of each other rather than competing amongst themselves. He also urged the state government bestow three awards for movies of five regional languages - Tulu, Konkani, Beary, Kodava and Arebhashe - so that only one movie is not awarded as is now, and to increase the aid for the award winning movies to Rs 15 lacs.
The presidential address was delivered by the chancellor of Mangaluru Diocese, Fr Henry Sequeira, who inaugurated the programme with Fr Antony Lobo. In his brief address, he wished the producer and the crew luck.
The ace Bollywood director of 'Saajan' fame, Lawrence D’Souza, launched the teaser of the movie.
Stany D'Souza and Evelyn D'Souza compered the programme. Janet Noronha welcomed the gathering, while Esther Noronha thanked them for their support through Noshibacho Khell and the programme.
The star cast of the movie includes Elton Mascarenhas in the lead role alongside Esther Noronha. The cast of super hit Konkani movie Noshibacho Khell will give their support to this movie.
The movie crew has on board- director and screenwriter, Harry Fernandes; cinematographer, Shafiq Shaikh; and music director, Gunavantha Sen. The movie will have veteran Goan movie maker, Prince Jacob, in a key supporting role.
The production of the movie will begin in October.
