Lalit Modi's son debuts quietly as cricket manager in Rajastan

Alwat, (Raj), Sep 13 (India Today): Former Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi's son, Ruchir Modi, has been crowned as president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association's Alwar district.

Like father, like son, eh? It sure looks like in the family of disgraced cricket tycoon Lalit Modi.

His son, Ruchir Modi, has made a debut as a game manager. Modi Jr has been crowned as president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA)'s Alwar district.

His quiet entry into the RCA came in much the same way that his father had once made. In 2004, Lalit Modi broke into the RCA via his election from Nagore district.

According to RCA secretary Somendra Tiwari, Ruchir was named chief of the cricket body's Alwar zone in a vote on Aug 23.

This election was atypical -- no media hype, no jamboree.

Modi Jr was seen at the RCA's Jaipur office on July 21. His visit did trigger faint speculations about some activity under way in the cricket association.

But his election last month as head of the RCA's Alwar district has come as a surprise.

In order to become eligible to stand from the zone, Ruchir also bought land in Alwar, insiders told India Today.
His past association with cricket, sources said, had largely been limited to watching matches in Jaipur along with his father.

At present, he is living in Mumbai after having completed his college.

Speculation is rife that the young man's sudden foray into district cricket management was a well-planned tactic to pave the way for him to take control of the RCA, which lost BCCI recognition because of the taint on his father as its president.

That way, the state cricket association will then be able to claim the BCCI stamp back, sources say.

In December 2004, Lalit Modi was elected president of the RCA's Nagore district.

Six months later, he became boss of the state's cricket association.
