Mangaluru, Sep 14: The city police commissioner Chandra Shekar on Wednesday, September 14 said that the person who kept the mobile camera at the University ladies toilet stands arrested.
Santhosh M (22) is the person arrested. He is from Sullia and he is the second year M Sc Marine Geology student at the University.
A police complaint was registered by Mangaluru University Registrar at Konaje police station regarding a mobile found in the ladies toilet of the botanic department of Mangaluru University on September 1. The mobile was sent to Hyderabad Forensic lab for tests by experts. Necessary witnesses were identified for investigation in the case.
A police team led by Konaje police station inspector Ashok P and staff was formed to nab the suspect. The details of the mobile set and necessary witnesses were found. Information regarding the place from where the mobile and the necessary components were bought was gathered. Santhosh was taken into custody for questioning based on the outcome of secret investigation. Later he confessed to the crime. The components used during the act have been seized.
In total, 82 suspects were interrogated in the case. After going to minute details and ground level authentic information, Santhosh was arrested. The accused has reportedly confessed his crime, said police officials.
Police investigating team has been awarded Rs 10,000 cash and appreciation certificate for their commendable work. Police constable Shivaprasad played a crucial role in investigating the case. He was rewared Rs 5,000 cash.
Accused Santhosh has been booked under IPC section 354.
About derogatory comments posted in facebook on Kateel deity, Chandrashekar said, “Police have already issued three notices to facebook to provide information. The representatives of facebook have not yet responded to the notices. We will use all legal means to acquire the information and reach to a logical conclusion.”
He directed university authorities to increase the number of CCTV in college premises.
Konaje police inspector Ashok P, PSI Sukumaran and staff have conducted the operation on directions and guidance from senior police officials.
