Udupi, Dec 15: The contractor of Nagarjuna Power have attacked a family belonging to SC who were residing within the purview of the proposed plant, on Thursday, December 13 night.
Ody Mugera and Appi Mugera couple, Sumana (24), Sunanda (23) and Geetha (21) their daughters who were residing within the vicinity of the controversial site of Nagarjuna Power Plant were being attacked by a group of contractor.
The contractors, Nagaraj Shetty, Bhaskar Shetty, David and labourers, Arvind, Girish Navada, Sudarshan, Sitaram, attacked the family who were seriously injured in the process. They were admitted at district Government Hospital where they are recovering.
Ody Mugera family were residing at Kaje, Kemmundil, which comes under the jurisdiction of Yellur near Padubidri, who have posed strong opposition to setting up of coal based power plant in their neighbourhood, since the past many years. Accordingly, the accused were waiting for an opportunity to settle their score with the family.
Padubidri police have registered a case in this regard.
Meanwhile, a memorandum has been submitted to deputy commission, Ponnuraj by MP, Manorama Madhwaraj, with the demand to take legal action on the accused.
Owing to the assault on SC family in the vicinity of on-going works on setting up of Nagarjuna power plant, the opposition to the controversial project would gather momentum threatened to be violent in the coming days.
