Mangaluru, Sep 17: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will be holding a three day long ‘Lokotsava’, a country level gathering to spread the flavor of Konkani language, art and Janapada in the country.
The celebrations will be held at the Town Hall, Mangaluru on February 10, 11 and 12 in 2017. It will bring together nearly 41 communities from three religions speaking Konkani language with unique art, culture, Janapada precepts and eating habits which will be shown in the exhibitions.
The information was provided by the Academy at a press meet held at its office.
Konkani has rich Janapada heritage. There will be platform to show dramas, different Janapada art forms, Yakshagana folk songs, different dance forms and Konkani cinema. The Lokotsava will be held from 9 am to 9 pm for three days.
Food will be made available to those who arrive for Lokotsava. Exhibitions of Konkani speaking people’s lives will also be held. Their culture, traditional dresses, stalls of traditional and modern food and books will be available in the premises. Large pandals will be erected on both sides of the Town hall for the purpose.
Main programmes during three days:
Friday, February 10, 2017 at 10 am : Glorious inauguration
Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 4 pm: Procession by Janapada groups from Balmatta grounds to Town hall
Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 5 pm: Academy award, book award, youth award, felicitation to achievers, inauguration of book and concluding ceremony.
Art groups from various Konkani speaking communities from different parts of the state will arrive during the three days, stay and introduce the depth of Konkani Janapada art to the world. There will be a platform for the exchange of Konkani culture.
Other programmes that will be held during the three days:
First day: Women’s and children’s day: There will be various literary and cultural programmes and seminar by women and children. There will be display of Janapada in the evening.
Second day – Youth day: The day is meant for Konkani speaking youth. Students of schools and colleges learning Konkani in Konkani clubs will display their talents. There will be Janapada procession and cultural programmes in the evening.
Third day: It is a day for all the Konkani fraternity. There will be several seminars and cultural exhibitions the whole day. Academy award, book award and Rasamanjari programme will be held in the evening.
Committees for the success of Lokotsava
Some committees have been formed for the smooth holding of Lokotsava activities and to obtain guidance and suggestions. Academy president Roy Castelino is the president and Dr B Devdas Pai is the secretary of all the committees. Academy members Jayaram Siddi, Yakub Ahmed G and Lawrence D’ Souza are the members of the committees.
