Delhi: Francis Fernandes’ Konkani drama ‘Matharo Charbela’ -70th show held

Delhi, Sep 17: The 70th successful performance of Matharo Charbela drama written by Francis Fernandes Cascia and directed by Joy Paladka was held at the Cultural auditorium of the Cathedral, New Delhi on Sunday, September 11.

The Canara Cultural Association, Delhi celebrated ‘Monthi Fest’ with a Holy Mass at Cathedral church where Konkani hymns were sung. Konkani hometown culture was enlivened by throwing flowers to the statue of Mother Mary. The annual meeting of the association was held and meals were served later.

In the hall programme held later, senior priest Fr Victor D’ Souza and Congress MP Oscar Fernandes honoured writer of ‘Matharo Charbela’, popular dramatist Comedy King Francis Fernandes Cascia and director Joy Paladka by draping a shawls, presenting flower bouquets and mementoes. All the artistes were also presented mementoes.

Francis Fernandes jovially expressed his feelings. The drama started after that. Though small skits are performed in Delhi by people, this was the first time that a Konkani drama that too written by Francis Fernandes Cascia created history here. The audience with wide eyes watched the drama clapping hands in appreciation coupled with laud laughter. All the artistes performed well satisfying the Konkani people, nuns and priests in the audience.

Oscar Fernandes, who was there from morning to evening, took the artistes to his home and felicitated them.
