Bengaluru, Sep 18: Union Minister of State for Commerce Nirmala Seetharaman has alleged that the forces inimical to BJP have indulged in disinformation campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of attacks on Dalits.
Addressing the Karnataka State Executive Committee of the BJP SC Morcha in Jagannath Bhavan in Bengaluru on Saturday, she asserted that politically-motivated slanderous campaign was being conducted with ulterior motive shows the frustration and desperate mindset of these elements which have developed vested interests on the issues pertaining to Dalits.
“It is deplorable that each and every attack on Dalits is attributed to the Prime Minister. This is nothing but malicious, politically motivated and being done with ulterior motive,” she said and added, “This needs to be effectively countered with facts, figures and ground reality where millions of Dalits, minorities and weaker section of society are benefitted by various schemes evolved by the BJP government at the Centre,”
According to Nirmala Seetharaman, a number of schemes evolved by the BJP government headed by Modi are aimed at economic upliftment of the poorest among the poor.
“The primary objective of Mudra scheme, for instance, is to create millions of entrepreneurs throughout the country from among the Dalits, minorities and weaker section of society,” she said.
Seetharaman, the Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka, said: “The Mudra scheme has resulted in a silent revolution in the economic sphere which needs to be highlighted by our workers of the SC Morcha as well as others effectively in order to counter the smear campaign.”
Asserting that the BJP is committed to the principle of 'Antyodaya' for taking care of the poorest of the poor as enunciated by Pandit DeenadayalUpadhyaya, the economic idealogue of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, she said, “Unlike the Congress and other pseudo-secular parties which paid only lip-sympathy, the BJP is meaningfully and in concrete terms serving the interests of the Dalits by enabling them to become entrepreneurs. Our ethos – ‘Justice to all and appeasement of none’ is being scrupulously implemented.”
She recalled the pro-people schemes especially that benefitted the weaker section and dalits evolved by the BJP government in Karnataka and complimented state party President B.S. Yeddyurappa for initiating revolutionary and innovative schemes.
In his address, Yeddyurappa accused the Congress for harbouring innate hatredness towards Dr Ambedkar and asserted that the country’s oldest party has no moral right to take name of Babasaheb.
“The Congress under Pandit Nehru did not give ticket to Ambedkar to contest the elections; the Congress ensured his defeat twice and later when Babasaheb died, Pandit Nehru refused a decent cremation to the Constitution-maker in Delhi. Does it not show the Congress party’s innate contempt for Ambedkar?” Yeddyurappa asked.
The BJP leader called upon the party workers to expose the double-standard and hypocrisy of the Congress.
BJP State General Secretary Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi-Chikkamagalur MP, also addressed the gathering.
