Mangaluru, Sep 18: "Ullal police have arrested two persons for collecting money from students after promising to obtain medical seats for them," informed Mangaluru city police commissioner Chandrashekar.
Addressing a press meet on Sunday, September 18 here at the commissioner’s office, Chandra Shekhar said "A complaint was registered in Ullal police station that two persons identified as Sanjeeva (34) from Erode in Tamil Nadu and Thimmayya (45) from Madikeri in Karnataka had taken Rs 20 to 25 lacs from each student from Tamil Nadu."
"As they did not provide seats, some parents of the affected students, who grew suspicious, went to the concerned medical college at Deralakatte and informed the college administration about the incident. The college administration informed that the admission tests were already over." commissioner added.
"Based on the complaint, Ullal police inspector Shivaprasad and personnel acted swiftly and arrested the duo. During the course of investigation, it was gathered that they had collected money from 16 students. We are trying to contact other affected persons. Rs 37.5 lac has been recovered from the accused. It is presently estimated that the duo duped to the tune of Rs 2.82 crores.” said commissioner.
Awareness notice
"We urge the colleges to display an awareness notice in their colleges so that people are not cheated by such offenders. We also request the public not to fall prey to such tactics. If anyone has any information about such persons, they can contact the police."
DCPs Sanjeev Patil and Shantharaju were present at the press meet.
