Udupi, Sep 18: Dinesh Gundu Rao, the working president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), who was in city here said that senior Congress leader should not make public statements concerning the party and should not indulge in unnecessary talks.
He was addressing media persons in a press conference at District Congress Bhavan, Brahmagiri on Sunday, September 18.
“This is my fist visit to Udupi as working president of state Congress party.” he said.
Mass contact programme, Indira birth centenary
“People have lack of knowledge about Panchayat Raj system and its rights. We need to create awareness on this. A public committee should be formed in all districts to educate and create awareness among public on government’s laws, schemes and programmes. On October 2, Congress will launch a mass contact programme in Vidurashwa village in Chikkaballapur district to mark Gandhi Jayanthi.” Rao revealed.
“National Students' Union of India will go to celebrate students’ day on October 15 to mark birth anniversary of former president late APJ Abdul Kalam. Congress has chalked out a year- long programme to mark birth centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from November 19 this year to November 19, 2017.” he said.
Terror attacks
Replying to the question on terror attack on September 18 at Uri in Jammu Kashmir, Rao said “It is sad that 17 Indian army soldiers were killed. The central government should consider this issue seriously. Prime minister has to give more attention in providing security in order to maintain peace in the nation.
“Modi has failed to have a good foreign policy. Pakistan-India relationship is not at all good. Modi received a huge publicity inviting Pakistan prime minister for his swearing- in ceremony. But the relationship has not improved. Stern measures should be taken for containing the terrorists,” he added.
George and DySP Ganapati case
Regarding resignation of former state home minister K J George, he said, “There is no relationship between DYSP Ganapati suicide and K J George. It is all political conspiracy of BJP. There is no evidence in the case at all. Opposition party does not have any moral right to talk about this case. Government has no hands in IAS D K Ravikumar death case also. George should not be given his minister’s post.”
Janardhana Poojary
When asked about his opinion on Janardhan Poojary’s statement which said ‘If George comes back to power, Congress will not stay for longer in the state’, Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “Being a senior party leader, he should stop giving such public statements. He should not indulge in unnecessary talks. It is a politically motivated statement. AICC will take action on this issue, if necessary.”
Cauvery dispute
Speaking on Cauvery issue, Rao said “‘Supreme Court verdict is always final and everyone should obey it. Modi has the responsibility of protecting the interest of not only Tamil Nadu people but also that of Karnataka. Karnataka is facing severe water problem.”
