Udupi, Dec 17: Use of muscle power on dalits may give rise to a situation similar to the one happening at Nandigram, was the warning given by Shri Vithaldas Swamiji of Sandipini Ashrama, Kemaru to the Nagarjuna Company which is planning to put-up a coal-based power project near Padubidri here.
He was addressing media persons on Saturday December 15 after paying a visit to the family of a dalit community, who were reportedly assaulted by the staff of the company, a few days ago. "The company should immediately stop all its misdeeds which are illegal, otherwise it will have to pay dearly," he cautioned.
Till date, none of the earlier companies which proposed to set up plants here, be it Cogentrics, KPC, NTPC, had displayed the 'goon-culture' like Nagarjuna Company, he informed. Assaulting a woman is a sign of degradation of the company. It is unpardonable and intolerable, condemned the Swamiji.
Moreover, he averred that in the near future he will hold talks with the swamijis of the 'Asta Maths' and will also be visiting the house of the locals. The main purpose is to instill confidence in them and subsequently also hold a massive 'Anti-Nagarjuna-Rally' in the presence of the other swamijis. Later he said plans were afoot also to submit a memorandum to the governor Rameshwar Thakur in order to convince him of the "anti-people" attitude of the company, he added.
The entire medical expense of the wife and children of Modigera, the injured Dalit person, too must be borne by the company, he demanded. And even urged the government to collar the accused.
