Udupi, Sep 20: It is proposed, for the first time, to organize GSB world convention at the government high school ground at Hajamady in the taluk on December 25 this year. About 30,000 people are expected to gather for the convention. Dignitaries and people with noted contributions to the society from all over the globe including USA, England and Gulf region are expected to participate.
This was stated by R Vivekananda Shenoy Karkala, convener of GSB Samaj Hitarakshana Vedike, speaking at a programme organized at Kaup on Monday September 19 in connection with the district committee meeting of the Vedike and first phase health card distribution programme. The programme was held at the auditorium of Hale Mariamma temple at Kaup.
Retired headmaster and Yoga trainer, N Radhakrishna Prabhu, speaking on the occasion, noted that health happens to be an important aspect of life alongside food, housing, and education. He hailed the Vedike for conceiving the integrated family health insurance scheme with help from donors.
District general secretary of the Vedike, Sanoor Narasimha Kamath, said that cards which cover health expenses worth one lac rupees are being distributed to 20,000 GSB families. He said that under 'Kutumba Chaitanya' scheme of the Vedike, a sum of Rs 28.92 lac was distributed to 251 people at the rate of Rs 12,000 per month. Besides, toilets were built for six houses at a cost of Rs 35,000 under cleanliness drive, while a house was built at a cost of Rs 5 lac for a family ast Sastan. Scholarship worth Rs 6.5 lac was disbursed to students. He said that in he coming days, it has been proposed to extend health card scheme to all the villages.
District GSB Samaja Hitarakshana Vedike president, Satish Hegde, presided over the programme. K Kamalaksha Nayak, former trustee of Kaup Lord Venkataramana temple, symbolically handed over health card. Various dignitaries and office bearers were present.
Vedike's Kaup zone organizing secretary, Prasad S Kamath, welcomed. District treasurer, Vinod Kamath, proposed vote of thanks. Kaup zone president, Harish Nayak, presented the programme.
