Mangaluru, Sep 22: The revised order of the department of primary and secondary education curtailing Dasara holidays has come as a bolt from the blue for the students and teachers of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. Unexpectedly, they are made to forego four holidays without justifiable reason.
The department, deviating from the established norm of giving Dasara holidays beginning from the next day of conclusion of semester examination, has modified the holidays from October 9 to 30 by postponing the beginning of holidays from October 3 as stipulated earlier. Not only the students, but also the teachers are aggrieved by the cut in holidays.
The schools and colleges in the coast had been closed on September 9 on account of Karnataka bandh, whereas in case of other bandhs and agitations they had functioned normally. In order to convince the higher ups of the need to partially modify the order and advance beginning of holidays for institutions in twin-districts to October 3, a delegation of teachers organizations have planned to meet deputy director of public instruction and deputy commissioner of the district on Wednesday September 22.
