Plane makes emergency landing at Perth

Perth, Sep 23 (IANS): A Qantas plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Perth on Friday with the main cause still under investigation.

Authorities said that 102 people were evacuated from the plane after reports of fumes in the cockpit of the QantasLink aircraft were spotted, forcing passengers to disembark using emergency slides, Xinhua news agency reported.

Perth Airport had then tweeted that the Qantas QF1623 had landed safely.

"However emergency services are in attendance as a normal precaution," it said.

The plane was travelling from Newman to Perth, and landed at 11.36 a.m.

Qantas said all 97 passengers and five crew members were safe.
