Bangalore Dec 21: Former Karnataka chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday successfully underwent an open heart surgery at a super speciality hospital here.
Kumaraswamy who had been admitted to Worckhardt Hospital following complaints of chest pain, had been diagnosed to be suffering from severe calcific arotic valve stenosis, necessitating an open heart surgery for replacement of the blocked valve of his heart.
The four-and-half hour long surgery which commenced at nine am on Thursday was conducted by a team of eight doctors, headed by Dr Vivek Jawali.
"The surgery has gone well and has been uneventful", Dr Vishal Bali, CEO of the hospital told PTI on Thursday.
He has been shifted to the intensive care unit where he will remain under observation for 48 hours.
He will subsequently be shifted out of the ICU but will remain in the hospital for a week, he said.
"All his parameters are fine", Bali said.
Kumaraswamy was admitted to the hospital on December 18 after he complained chest pain.

But a former Karnataka minister has chosen a novel and unique way in wishing speedy recovery of his close friend, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, who is undergoing open heart surgery for replacement of a blocked valve in his heart at a private hospital here today.
Zameer Ahmed Khan, one of the lieutenants of Kumaraswamy, announced that he would fund the cost of 20 coronary angiograms, four open heart surgeries and three angioplasties of poor patients, who will undergo the treatment at the state-run Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology today.
"This is out of goodwill geture to the poor people of the state and unique way of wishing success for Kumaraswamy's operation", Khan said in a statement.
Incidentally, Kumaraswamy's brother-in-law Dr C N Manjunath is heading the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology.
Meanwhile, JDS workers have planned for poojas at temples praying for successful surgery for their leader and his speedy recovery.
JDS has declared that it would fight the coming assembly election in the state under his leadership.
