Panaji, Dec 23: One of Taleigao's panchayat members has filed a criminal case against information technology and finance minister Dayanand Narvekar with the Panaji police, alleging corruption in the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat project.

Dilip Diukar, representing a ward in Taleigao panchayat in whose jurisdiction IT Habitat is taking shape, has lodged a criminal complaint against Narvekar. The complaint accused the minister of selling huge piece of land at low price, regarded as very low in comparison with the market rate.

The complaint states that land in IT Habitat was sold at price of Rs 4,500 compared to the actual pricing of Rs 20,000 and above.

Diukar, who lodged the complaint in the presence of social activist and advocate Aires Rodrigues, has also alleged that the minister did this 'to favour his relatives'.

With today's complaint the fight over IT Habitat is going to be worse. Taleigao legislator Babush Monserratte and Narvekar are already head-on over the issue and the police complaint is likely to furtherwiden the divide between the duo.

The Panaji police station is already getting IT Habitat-related cases piled up with it. This is the third case, the first being violence at IT Habitat, second related to the alleged attack on GPYCC activists by Babush supporters and this is the third one.

In these cases, a minister, a legislator, a mayor and three councilors have been named. The Panaji town police station, which saw a change of guard with police inspector Serafin Dias being shunted out and replaced by Sudesh Naik, has not taken any action in the matter.

Sudesh Naik, a comparatively lesser experienced police inspector, is apparently biding for time as till date no major arrests have happened.

The issue on the other hand is attaining different turns and twists, with the passing of every passing day seeing some chapter being added to it.
