Kochi, Oct 4: National Investigating Agency (NIA) arrested four youth from the state for suspected links with ISIS on Monday October 3 from Tirunelveli and Coimbatore. Six were arrested from Kannur on Sunday. It is said that ISIS was planning to ram a truck at public meeting at Kochi, target seven institutions and had a hit list of six noted personalities from the state. They had formed a chat group of 12 with some members abroad. It is said that Manseed from Kannur headed the group that was disbanded after security personnel got wind of it. He posed himself with the name, Sameer Ali, it is gathered.
Chief minister of the state, Pinarayi Vijayan, said in the assembly that he has sought setting up of an institution for providing counter intelligence and anti-terrorism training. Vijayan also stated that a close vigil is being kept on people propagating violence through social media.
It is gathered that sleuths of NIA infiltrated into the ISIS network and got information about their plans of destructive activities. It is gathered that parents and family members of the youth were unaware about their terror links. They were caught by surprise when NIA officers, who had caught hold of the chat about plan to detonate truck, arrested the youngsters.
