Hyderabad, Oct 4: Kanara Catholic Welfare Association (KCWA) Hyderabad celebrated Monthifest on September 11, 2016 at the St Francis Junior College campus in Secunderabad.

The celebrations began with the traditional blessing of the new paddy and the statue of Maria Bambina. The statue was taken in procession with the gathering showering colourful flowers all along the way. The congregation sang `Sakkad sangatha melyan, Moriyek hogolsian...’ and other hymns in praise of Mother Mary.

The traditional mass in Konkani was celebrated by Fr Alwin Mascarenhas SVD, Fr Felix Roche SVD and Fr Lancelot Menezes from St John’s Regional Seminary.

After the mass, the association conducted the annual general body meeting. Seven new members joined the association on the day. They were introduced to the gathering.

After the meeting, Lt Gen Trevor D`Cunha PVSM (Retd) presented appreciation gifts to all ladies who had prepared traditional Mangalorean dishes for the festive lunch. Iona D`Cunha presented the merit awards to students who had scored more than 70% marks in various exams and courses.

Sumptuous home-made lunch was served to all present. After the lunch, the members got together to sing traditional Konkani songs. The atmosphere was filled with bonhomie and music. It was a grand get-together where many elderly members took pains to join the celebrations and the younger generation got together in conducting the event.

Despite heavy rains the participation was encouraging with all members braving the rains and sharing the joy of Monti fest.

KCWA looks forward to organizing many more such community events in the future.
