Won't support use of Army in political propaganda: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Oct 7 (PTI): Facing flak for his 'dalali' remarks on surgical strikes, Rahul Gandhi today said he has "unequivocally" supported the military action but is against the use of army in political posters and propaganda by BJP.

"I fully support the surgical strikes and I have said so unequivocally, but I will not support using the Indian Army in political posters and propaganda all across the country," the Congress vice president said in a series of tweets.

He had yesterday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of "hiding behind the blood of soldiers" and said that he was politically exploiting their sacrifices.

"Jinhone Hindustan ke liye surgical strike kiye hain, unke khoon ke peeche aap chhupe hain. Unki aap dalali kar rahe ho. Yeh bilkul galat hai. {You (Modi) are hiding behind the blood of soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir and those who carried out the surgical strikes for India. You are exploiting their sacrifices, which is very wrong}," Rahul had said.

His 'dalali' barb has drawn strong reaction from BJP which called it "a new low in Indian politics". Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and other parties have also criticised the Congress leader's remarks.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Digvijay Singh lashed out at the BJP leadership, alleging that they were touting the surgical strike on terror launchpads along the LoC as if they did it themselves instead of the army men.

"Modi Amit Shah Parrikar and BJP Leaders are going around as if they have done the Surgical Strike! Give our Army & our Braveheart the Credit," Singh tweeted.

Rahul had made the remarks yesterday while addressing a rally here, marking the culmination of his month-long 'Deoria to Delhi kisan yatra' in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

While we salute for the surgical strikes, BJP has already started taking advantage for political gains.

In UP posters have come up already with BJP leaders with army in back to gain political mileage.

If then, why Mr. Modi had to go to Pakistan to wish Nawaz Sharif on his birthday. Our relationship with Pak is sensitive and will remain so.

Even after surgical strike terrorism has not stopped as there seems to be a surge in attacks in J&K. To avenge strikes fidayeens will likely intensify attacks in the coming days. It would have been better if our leaders would have handled things maturely than to allow mudslinging in public.

Pakistan has reached a stage where there is no cure. Their mindset is completely brain washed by religion. A Pakistani friend of mine explained how over the years people are turning to religion and mullahs have mushroomed all over with youngsters being radicalized by growing beards who were until recently clean shaven.

The world has not choice but to save this country, otherwise we all know how Taleban ruled Afghanistan which can happen to Pakistan also and we will have a major headache neighbor (now at least there could be some reasonable people)

ABSOLUTELY. Forget party and everything. Just we need to support this PM who is doing his best, recognized by world class leaders, appreciated for his vision and focus, very very hard working, restless until he reaches his target, could bring a huge wave across the country by so many initiatives, reachable by a common man, brought a system which is so people friendly, public friendly... so many stuffs on his credits... let's all support him and ensure we as a nation reaches the peak and become a strong nation. But very hard job as there is a very strong power pulling our PM down and make all his initiatives a failure either based on minority clause, based on communnal name ... with what ever name they want make him a failure.

Govt nor BJP didn't politicalized the subject. It's only Congress and AAP which could not digest the victory of Central govt , taking this bold step, succeed and now whole international/national level appreciations received....seeing these... both these Dongi parties ( Congress and AAP ) has diverted it politically. Asking questions, evidences, giving some stupid and anti national comments and statements... trying their level best to divert the victory and credit to Modi and his team... We need to bear this just by understanding their helpless position and condition. Congress is a party which can not be alive with out having power in their hand. They are so restless and in to all sort of anti-national activities just to defeat BJP, to extreme of compromising national safety also... Let's all work together to make India a Congress Mukth Desh.

Read statements from Congressmen from the past one week, what low they can go. Even PM Modi didnt said anything about strike. Whatever happening is a media debate. MODI's bold decission on surgicle strike showing clear effect in pakistan. Civil govt cornered Army for not taking enough action on terrorist. MPs seen asking Govt why terror org chiefs allowed to do rallies and pakistan was isolated and even countries like nepal bhutan avoiding them. POK residents doing rallying against govt for allowing terror camps to thrive in their villages. Baluchisthan getting international attention. But pity is that for parties like Congress needs proof of strike, proof of pak isolation. Idiots should knw that without PM nod Army cant cross border. It seems more than pakis, these people hurt by surgical strike.

This guy should know that India is a democracy. Here every decisdion with elected Govt. Army cant fire a bullet with Govt nod. Its a brave political decission to do surgical strike. What if its failed? Who will be blamed. Its MODI. So credit equally should go for both. As far as playing politics, Govt or BJP never thump chested. There is huge media hype and public enthusiasm which is beyond Govt control. Debate discussions happens. Problem with Congress is that MODI getting good support. Rahul should remember he himself asked where is 56" chest. Forget Indian history, atleast Rahul should read his own grandmother's autobiograpghy to get some inspiration. Or else he will become a joker.

Just go through Hindu Oct 6th, Modi himself advised his ministerial colleagues to avoid chest thumping (btw, it’s not thump chesting !!!) which means there was lot of chest thumping going on. Going by your own logic, if army is not allowed to fire a bullet without Govt’s nod, it follows naturally that WITHOUT GOVT’S NOD, IT CAN’T ISSUE ANY PRESS RELEASE EITHER! Do you understand what does it imply in the wake of recent developments?

Its his advise. Can you show one press meet by bjp men. If people feel proud of its Army and central govt how can any one oppose it. When media asks a minister about the strike he has to answer it. By the way, didnt Congress gives credit to Indira gandhi for pak india bangla war! Till today this party says they are the people who fought independence!! Seriously.

How conveniently you have forgotten Parikkar’s likening of army to Hanuman. That’s what prompted Modi to intervene and give him his piece of mind. See the headline on Hindu 5th Oct “BJP banners across U.P. laud ‘surgical strikes’." In view of the upcoming state elections if this not taking political advantage of Surgical Strikes, what else is? 1971 was not a surgical strike, it was an all out war and under the commendable leadership of Mrs Gandhi even the mighty US was forced to back off, thanks to the support extended by the erstwhile USSR. As for Independence, if I’m not mistaken, congress was the only major political party we had at that time.
