Kasargod, Oct 7: Sabahani Haja Moideen, a native of Todupuzha in the state, who was arrested from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu recently, was the first ever Indian to get tough ISIS training, investigating officials revealed. Sabhahani had also fought on behalf of this organization, which is the leading terrorist organization in the world, they said. He was trained in operating heavy duty machine gun and rocket launchers. National Investigation Agency officials suspect that Sabahani was coordinating with various ISIS units in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.
Sabahani, a salesman by profession, was active operative of ISIS till his arrest. He had fought in the ISIS war zone near Mosul for two weeks. He claims to have been provided with food, stay, and $ 100 per month for working for ISIS. The officials have also collected information that he had collected explosive materials from Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, with the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities at various spots.
Sabahani had left Todupuzha where his parents currently live, on April 8, 2015, and travelled through Chennai and Iraq. There, he met some residents of Pakistan and Afghanistan and went to Mosul and joined the ISIS centre there, he confessed. After getting trained for two months in warfare, he fought two weeks for ISIS and returned home in September 2015. He has been engaged in recruiting people for ISIS, officials said. It is said that he saw many of his companions getting burnt down in shell fire, and that he was imprisoned for 55 days on the suspicion that he was trying to leave ISIS. Actually Sabhahani was unable to digest the cruelty and macabre incidents at the war field, and had tried to flee, they said. But later, he reached Turkey with some other terrorists as per ISIS plan.
The agency had recently arrested several people from Kanakamala in Kannur district, who are alleged to be linked to ISIS. It is said that several operatives working in tandem with these men live in United Arab Emirates. The agency has approached Interpol for help to nab them.
