Facebook rolls out standalone app for events

New York, Oct 8 (IANS): Facebook has introduced a standalone app that allows event seekers to keep up with nearby events and finding things to do with their friends.

Whether you are looking for something to attend this weekend or just wondering what is happening in your area, events app will help get you there, the social media giant said.

"Every day, more than 100 million people use Facebook events to discover things they can do with their friends -- from festivals to neighbourhood fairs and nightlife," Facebook Product Manager Aditya Koolwal said in a statement on Friday.

Now, when you open events, you can quickly catch up on new events your friends are interested in, recently announced events by the Pages you like, and updates from events you are already connected to.

Users can easily browse event recommendations based on time, location and their interests and can also explore events happening using the interactive map.

Users can keep track of all of their upcoming events in the calendar, which lets them see which days they are already attending an event and when they are free.

The actions you take on events in the app will also be visible and available on Facebook.

Events is available in the App Store for iPhone users in the US and is coming soon to Android, the company said.
