Udupi, Dec 27: The recently-concluded 74th All-India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana was organized at a cost of Rs 2 crore, informed auditor of the sammelan reception committee Surendra Nayak.
Addressing an informal meeting of the committee, he said that Rs 80 lac out of Rs 1 crore released from the government has been availed by the reception committee while Rs 20 lac has been given to central committee of Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
He lamented that the contribution by the government employees was not sufficient, especially in comparison to those for Shimoga and Bidar literary conferences. While Shimoga sammelan got a contribution of Rs 65 lac and Bidar sammelan Rs 50 lac, the one held in Udupi receieved only Rs 8
lac from the employees.
Adding that not all the bills have been submitted by the suppliers, he said that a balance sheet of the total expenses will be submitted to the committee in next 15 days.
President of the committee Dr V S Acharya suggested the construction of a monument near the sammelan venue at an estimated cost of Rs 5 lac.
