M'lore: Silver Jubilee Function of Rural Self Employment Held

Mangalore, Dec 30: The concluding ceremony of the silver jubilee of Rural Self Employment Programme (RUSEMP), the non formal technical school of the diocese of the city took place recently here.
The institute was started on Dec 1982 by msgr Edwin Pinto, when he was secretary of CODP. Rev. Fr. Stanley Pereira had donated 3 acres of land for this noble cause.
So far the institute has trained more than 2200 rural poor and unemployed youths in various trades. Of these 41% are self-employed, 31% are well-employed and 10% are under further training/ employment experience. This shows the high rate of success of the institute.
The inauguration of the jubilee year had taken place on May 1, 2007 and the concluding programme took place on Dec 23, 2007 at Pakshikere Church hall.
The president the Bishop felicitated Fr Faustine Lobo, the former secretary of CODP and Fr. Onil D'Souza, present secretary of CODP for their services. RUSEMP is a sister concern of CODP.
Fr Oswald Monteiro, the director of RUSEMP welcomed the dignitaries and guests. In his short report on the institute he recalled the vision of the founder and the plans for the silver jubilee year. Fr Alfred Pinto gave the Christmas message in the context of jubilee.
Bishop A.P.D'Souza expressed his happiness at the services given by RUSEMP to the poor youth and said God's favour rests on RUSEMP for its services to the last, least and the lost of the society.
Amarnath Shetty, former minister of Karnataka inaugurated the 'Grama Dnyana Kendra' a special jubilee computer scheme of the RUSEMP in collaboration with SF and Nasscom.
He appreciated the Christian service to the society. Fr. Faustine Lobo released the souvenir "Rajatha Darpana". Ex and present staff members were also felicitated on this occasion.
Rohith compeered the programme and Rajkumar gave the vote of thanks.
