Bantwal, Jan 2: The administration of Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) has once again come into Congress' hands. Congress backed candidates, advocate Ashok Kumar Barimar and Ammu Rai, were unanimously elected as president and vice-president of APMC, here during the polls held on Tuesday January 1. Congress has bagged 8 seats while BJP secured 6 seats in the elections.

The administration of taluk unit of APMC was with BJP, after the dissolution of BJP and JD (S) led coalition government when it lost the majority owing to the resignation of three nominated directors. Congress pursued no-confidence motion against the BJP backed administration. However, BJP managed to re-instate the administration by appointing Sankappa Gowda and Dharnappa Poojary, as president and vice-president besides three nominated directors.
Ashok Kumar Barimar, who was elected president, has been the progressive farmer, honourary president of DK District River Water Users’ and Electricity Consumers’ Committee, vice-president of taluk Agriculturists Association and vice-president of Mangalore Block Congress. Ammu Rai, who was elected vice-president, has been a class I PWD contractor and progressive farmer.
