Udupi, Jan 2: Tension prevailed for some time in the neighbourhood of Muloor, following an act of desecration by miscreants in the mosque on Tuesday.
Police keeping guard and maintaining peace near the mosque
The severed head of a pig was found lying in the compound by the faithful who turned up at the mosque for daily prayers on January 1 morning. Sensing trouble and possible tension, community leader M A Bavu immediately reported the matter to the police.
The community has urged the police to investigate into the matter and bring the culprits to book, so that such incidents would not recur and communal problems would not crop up.
The policemen who arrived at the spot and took the subject of mischief to the station for an autopsy and disposed of it. The local community leaders have appealed to the public to maintain calm and not to allow any flare-up. The members of the community appeared to have heeded the advice and maintained restraint.
Peace prevails in the area. The quick police response averted any ugly turn of events. They have regarded this as a blatant attempt at fanning religious mistrust and hence have assured the leaders of appropriate action by arresting the miscreants who indulged in the act of desecration.
