Udupi, Jan 3: William Pinto Shirtady, well-known lawyer of undivided Dakshina Kannada district, was felicitated by Dr G S Shivarudrappa in the presence of Prof Chandrashekar Patil, ex-president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Dr V S Acharya, former minister and several dignitaries, on Wednesday, December 12, during the 74th All India Kannada Literary Convention, held at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College, Aroor Laxminarayan Rao Auditorium, here, in recognition of his legal assistance imparted to common folks, related to Land Tribunal Act, local governance, educational sphere, human rights issues, since the past 35 years.
He has authored innumerable books in Kannada on Karnataka Land Tribunal Act, Panchayat Act and political awareness, legal awareness on daily living, decentralization of Panchayat administration, which were sold like hot cakes across the state besides contributed several articles on Kannada, English dailies and Konkani weeklies. It’s significant to note that Shirtady William Pinto had extended free legal services to the masses before setting up of Legal Services Authority by union government.
He has been the recipient of ‘Rajyotsav award ‘07’, ‘Sandesha award ‘96’, ‘Lions district award ‘99’, life time achievement award, distinguished personality award and other awards.
He has also contributed several articles on legal issues for the benefit of least among the community brethrens. He has also presented with distinguished award for his research work by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.
