Mangalore Jan 4: The 'Muhurat' (auspicious opening ceremony) of Konkani play – 'Jesu Bhonvarichyo Striyo' meaning women accompanying Jesus, was held at the Kelarai church hall here on Thursday, Jan 03, 2008.
Parish pastoral council of Kelarai will be staging this play on Sunday, March 9, 2008 on St. Agnes special school grounds, in aid of Kelarai Church Educational Institute (KCEI).
Fr Mark Castelino, parish priest of Kelarai, explaining cause behind the staging of the play, informed that the proceeds of this play would be utilized to complete the school building. He also said that over 7000 thousand people are expected to watch this play.
Jossy Rodrgiues, vice president parish pastoral council of Kelarai, welcomed the guests. Felix Lobo, a well-known businessman from Doha-Qatar and Vincent Fernandes, an established singer of "Mogachim Lharam" fame, were the chief guests on the occasion.
In his speech, Felix Lobo appreciated the efforts of the parish to give basic education to the local students.
Arun Raj Rodrigues, writer and director of the play, briefed on the synopsis of the play.
Convener of the organizing committee Alfred Benis, Prescilla Monteiro, secretary of PPC, were present on the dais. Agnes Vas compered the programme.
The play "Jesu Bhonvarichyo Striyo" is a very powerful and one of the most successful Konkani plays staged in recent years. It was first staged at Kalaangann in April 2006.
Mandd Sobhann's theatre troupe - "Manndd" is presenting this play. Rony Crasta Kelarai has written the lyrics. 'Vishwa Konkani Kala Ratn' Eric Ozario has composed the songs, while 'Sangeet Guru' Joel Pereira is the music director of this play.
