Bengaluru, Oct 30: Former Prime Minister, H D Deve Gowda, praised Beary community for carving out a niche for itself through valuable contributions in the fields of education and business. He was particularly appreciative of the importance given by the community for educating girls.
Addressing the gathering at the talent rewards and conferring 'Personality of the Year' award instituted by the association, which was organized at palace ground here on Saturday October 29, he said that Beary Muslims, whose presence is predominant in coastal areas, are known for honesty and dedication.
"It is really heartening to know that two girls, Fauzia and Sameera, have set up a degree college in Kadaba village in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. I will consider releasing of some funds from out of my MP local area development fund for this college," Gowda added. He expressed his total opposition to the initives aimed at enforcing uniform civil code in the country which is home to multiple cultures.
"Farooq, president of Bearys Welfare Association, had fought in the legislative council election as a candidate of our party. For obvious reasons, he was defeated. Victory and defeat are parts of one's life, but the character of a person is exemplified by the fact that even after defeat, he continues to remain dedicated to one's principles and belief," he stated. Gowda also made clear his intentions of ensuring that Farooq occupies the position which minister, U T Khader, enjoys now. "I will ensure this if I am alive then," he promised.
On this occasion, Fauzia and Sameera, who have set up a college at Kadaba with their concerted efforts, were honoured.
Food and civil supplies minister, U T Khader, Mangaluru (north) MLA, B A Mohiuddin Bava, JDS leader, Shafiulla, and many other dignitaries and guests were present.
On this occasion, former education minister, B A Moideen, was conferred with 'Personality of the Year' award. Students with excellent track record were also felicitated.
