M'lore: 'Hired Killers are Underworld Shetty's Associates'

MANGALORE, Jan 5: The Judicial Magistrate First Class Second Court here on Friday remanded two alleged contract killers, arrested by the district police on Thursday, in police custody for five days.

N. Sathish Kumar, Superintendent of Police, told presspersons that the arrested were Sachin Mukunda Nair (22) of Kogilu near Yelahanka and Vinod Kumar (23) of Kammanahalli in Bangalore. Both were associates of Koraga Vishwanath Shetty, underworld don believed to be operating from Dubai.

They were told to kill Srirama Hebbar at Yellapur and Suchitha Alva and Ananth Kamath here, Kumar said.

Raid

Kumar said that a police team led by Mangalore South Police Inspector H.N. Venkatesh Prasanna raided a hotel at Attavar where the accused were staying and seized a U.S.-made 9 mm pistol, six bullets, a mobile phone and Rs. 850 from them.

The team also recovered a permanent account number (PAN) card and a press identity card of “O Majestic” paper from Sachin, Kumar added.

Support

He said the support to carry out their plan was reportedly being provided by Lokesh Bangera, who was wanted in a double-murder case registered in Konaje police station in 2002.

Lokesh was also believed to be involved in the recent Chemmanur jewellery heist in Bangalore and another similar case in Hyderabad. A search was on for Harisha, an associate of Lokesh.
