Udupi, Jan 5: The policemen led by sub-inspector Praveen Nayak, have arrested three persons, on Friday January 4 with regard to an act of desecration at the Jumma mosque complex, at Muloor, on Tuesday January 1. Out of them, one person was produced in court while the others were subjected to interrogation.
As reported earlier in these columns, severed head of a pig was found lying in the compound by the faithful who turned up at the mosque for daily prayers on January 1 morning. But owing to people's cooperation and timely intervention by the police, the situation had remained peaceful in the area. Though a bundh call had been given a day later, situation had still remained peaceful owing to the efforts of leaders of different communities. Police had initiated a probe into the case and it has now yielded result as police have nabbed 3 persons who are said to have committed this act.
Accordingly, the police have presented Ivan Machado, resident of Manchakal, on Friday January 4 morning. Michael and Gopal, the other accused are held in police custody.
Initial interrogations with Ivan Machado, revealed that the severed heads of pigs were brought from his piggery. It is known that Michael, who was working in the piggery farm, had thrown severed head of the pig inside the mosque complex at Muloor.
Brethren of all the communities in and around Muloor observed bundh on Thursday January 3, condemning the act of desecration, which was done with the evil motive of kindling communal violence among the locals.
