Kundapur, Jan 5: In a major daylight theft case, two persons who entered LIC office under the guise of customers decamped with Rs 10.3 lac in cash on Saturday January 5 morning.
The incident took place around 12.30 pm on Saturday afternoon, stated police sources. Two persons entered the LIC office located in the heart of the city as customers and managed to flee the place with Rs 10.30 lac which was behind the counter. The money was to be deposited in the bank a little while later. Daylight theft took in such a shrewd manner that no physical force was used by anyone.
The thieves who said to have been speaking Tamil later came to Shastri Circle on a rickshaw and then disappeared.
Earlier they entered the LIC office and introduced themselves to the officials as prospective customers and said that they wanted to have an LIC policy. As they were talking to the officials they managed to divert the attention of the officials, stole money and immediately vacated the place. It was only a little while later that theft came to light.
However, by then they had escaped from the place. Kundapur police have registered the case in this regard and initiated a probe into the matter.
