Kundapur: Thieves Escape with Rs 10 Lac from LIC Office

Kundapur, Jan 5: In a major daylight theft case, two persons who entered LIC office under the guise of customers decamped with Rs 10.3 lac in cash on Saturday January 5 morning.

The incident took place around 12.30 pm on Saturday afternoon, stated police sources.  Two persons entered the LIC office located in the heart of the city as customers and managed to flee the place with Rs 10.30 lac which was behind the counter.  The money was to be deposited in the bank a little while later. Daylight theft took in such a shrewd manner that no physical force was used by anyone.

The thieves who said to have been speaking Tamil later came to Shastri Circle on a rickshaw and then disappeared.

Earlier they entered the LIC office and introduced themselves to the officials as prospective customers and said that they wanted to have an LIC policy.  As they were talking to the officials they managed to divert the attention of the officials, stole money and immediately vacated the place.  It was only a little while later that theft came to light.

However, by then they had escaped from the place.  Kundapur police have registered the case in this regard and initiated a probe into the matter.

    Well. They say one to be a master to survive in any trade. Here the thieves became masters than the LIC staff. Or there is an involvement of the staff? Such things do happen, isn't it? However, This my guess only.

    Connivance of staff cannot be ruled out. As the thieves were speaking Tamil, they might not have been conversant with the routine here. Probably tipped off by some insiders.

    I agree with Mr. Sukumar. Such acts do not happen just like that. The culprits study the lacunae in the systems and then strike at the opporune moment. For many people working with huge amount of cash for a long period it becomes just another commodity and loose the attention and concentration because it becomes a daily routine.

    The thieves must have observed and studied the security lacunae for number of days throughly before executing their plan.Definitely it was not a sudden action. LIC staff should have been very careful before allowing anybody near the cash cabin.
