Cyprus' APOEL beat Young Boys of Bern in Europa League


Nicosia (Cyprus), Nov 4 (IANS): Cypriot champions APOEL took out the Young Boys of Bern 1-0 in Europa League Group B action at home in a return match here.

In their first encounter two weeks ago, the Young Boys had beaten APOEL 3-1, reports Xinhua news agency.

APOEL's striker Pieros Soteriou shot past goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo Nganoma after tackling two Young Boys defenders on Thursday. That secured the game's only goal in the 69th minute.

Young Boys defender Mbabu Kevin was sent off the pitch in the 67th minute, moments after he entered the field as a substitute due to a tough foul.

APOEL now lead Group B with nine points in four games and are favourites to qualify for the next round.
