Panaji, Nov 5 (IANS): The Narendra Modi government will not waver on the issue of women's equality and its firm commitment on the issue can be seen by its position on the triple talaq issue, BJP President Amit Shah said on Friday.
"When it came to the triple talaq issue, our government did not dither or hesitate because all women in our country, irrespective of their religion, have been given rights under the Constitution," Shah said at the India Ideas Conclave at a resort in south Goa's Canacona town, 90 km from Panaji.
"In the past, we have witnessed political parties scamper, especially when it came to the issue of women's equality. This government is of the firm belief that the rights of women need to be protected, despite opposition. Our government is firm on this," Shah said.
"Taking these historic and courageous decisions is actual transformation. Could you imagine a Prime Minister in the past referring to the atrocities on women in an Independence Day speech?" Shah said.
