Udupi, Nov 5: Karnataka Dalit Sangarsh Samiti, Udupi on Saturday November 5, held protests against the taluk panchayat president and the chief executive officer of Udupi taluk panchayat for stopping the clearance of the unauthorised godown of gas cylinder.

Lokesh, convener of Dalit Sangarsha Samiti Padubidri said, “The gas agency had to clear the godown on September 30, 2016 as per the licence given to them. But the agency is continuing its storage in current godown. The department of food, civil supply and consumer affairs also ordered the local gram panchayat to clear the godown within seven days, but it is not been  cleared at all.”

“When gram panchayat officers came to clear the godown, the taluk panchayat president without inspecting anything stopped the clearance and interrupted the duties of gram panchayat officers. This shows the irresponsibility of both taluk panchayat president and chief executive officer,” he added.

He demanded the government to take appropriate action against them and clear the godown of explosive gas cylinders.

Sunder Mastru, SS Prasad, Shankar Das, Sumathi, Vimala Anchan, Prashanth Thottam and many other dalit leaders took part in the protest.
