Udupi: Taluk sports meet held at St Joseph School, Kalyanapur

Udupi, Nov 7: Pramod Madhwaraj, minister, district in-charge, fisheries, youth empowerment and sports service, inaugurated the taluk level school sports meet held at St Joseph Higher Primary School Kalyanpur on Monday, November 7.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Madhwaraj said, “Children need to be motivated and supported so that they can take part in sports and games from their early age. Government is planning to introduce new sports policy as early as possible.”

In his presidential speech during the inaugural, rector of Milagres Kathedral Church Kalyanapura, Fr Stany B Lobo said, “Our College has a history of 125 years in educational field. We are not only focusing on education but simultaneously equal preference is given to extracurricular and co curricular activities. Students should have goals in life and work hard to achieve it.”

Member of Mangalore University academic council and the chief guest of the program Amrith Shenoy said, “Everyone has talent in different fields, but in the case of children, they need support and guidance from teachers and parents to tap their talents. Often their interests and talents are systematically suppressed by teachers and parents in the names of SSLC performance and career. This is reason we are missing many Tendulkars and Sharukh Khans today.”

“India has become a super power after America and China. But we have failed to win gold medals in the recent Olympic. I want to see many from you to represent Olympic team of India,” he added.

Sipriaan Krasata, Ravindra Rao along with other achievers in sports namely Abhin Devadiga, Mohith D’Silva and Karishma were felicitated during the formal programme. 

After the inaugural, a dance performance was put up by the students of the school on a patriotic song.

Karmel English Medium School Kemmannu, Government Higher Primary School, Badanidiyoor, RK Patkar Higher Primary School, Cherkadi,  MJC Manipal, Government High School Manoor, B M Perdoor, Government High School, Gundmi, Sastan, Government Higher Primary School Januvarkatte, BM English medium School Parkal, Milagres Kalyanapur, Government Higher Primary School  Saibrakatte, APT  Perdoor, St Joseph Kalyanapur, Vidyamandira Bramhavara, Daru Salam, Hoode, Marinol Higher Primary School Hosala, Barkur, Higher Primary School Avarse, Nirmala Bramhavar have qualified for district level sports meet.

Pushpa Kotyan, Janardana Tonse, Dananjaya, Jerry Vincent Daiz, Ovin Rodriguez and many other guests were present for the programme.

Susheela Montero, Head of the school welcomed the guest, Herold D’Silva rendered vote of thanks and Prashanth Shetty Havanje compered the programme.
