Karkala, Nov 8: A woman health assistant was found to have hanged herself at the residential accommodation provided to her in a room of the hospital for which she worked at Ajekar, on the night of Sunday November 6. The circumstances under which the body of the lady, identified as Savita Bandekar (33), was found, has given rise to some doubts about her death, it is gathered.

Bandekar, it is learnt, died within a few months of her second marriage. She passed away in the room in which she was living with her husband since some time. Reasons which would have forced her to take this extreme step are not fully known.

Savita was working as junior lady health assistant at the government primary health centre at Ajekar in the taluk. She had recently entered wedded life for the second time, and had begun to stay with her husband at Ajekar. She had earlier married a person named Sanjay, but the couple had parted ways through divorce. About six months back, she had married Sunil, forest watcher working at Kabbinale section of the forest department.

The locals have expressed serious doubts about the suicide theory. They point out that the feet of the victim were completely in contact with the floor below. The roof beam to which the noose was tied is located at a considerable height which is much beyond the reach of Savita. Therefore, it would have been practically impossible for her to reach this beam, they say. Moreover, an injection syringe was found in the bathroom and there were signs that someone had vomitted there.

Police sources said that in the death note left behind, Savita has spoken about the incident in which she objected to her husband coming home heavily drunk. He got angry with her and thrashed her, for which she felt very bad and ended her life, as per the contents of this note, they added.

Tahsildar of the taluk, Guruprasad, visited the spot and conducted an inquest after which the mortal remains were sent for postmortem. A case stands filed in this respect at Ajekar police station.
