Puttur, Nov 8: The post graduate department of Physics of St Philomena College organised an ISRO and INSA sponsored one day national workshop on ‘Observational Astronomy & Data Analysis Techniques’ on October 5 at PG Seminar Hall.

The professor of physics at Christ University Bengaluru, Dr Paul K T inaugurated the workshop and delivered the keynote address. He said, "Astronomy is science that seeks to explain everything that we observe in the universe. It consists of the stars, planets and space. It was developed as a science because of the intellectual curiosity.’

The principal, professor Leo Noronha participated as the chief guest. He said, "Italian astronomer Galileo looked up at the heavens using a telescope of his making. His famous telescope still inspires curiosity in the field of astronomy."

The HoD of physics Dr A P Radhakrishna delivered the introductory speech. The correspondent Fr Alfred J Pinto presided over the programme.

In the technical sessions, Krishna Mohan A, Manipal Centre for Natural Sciences, Manipal University, Manipal and Shruthi S Bhat, research scholar Christ University, Bengaluru participated as the resource persons.

Roopashri and team performed the prayer. The coordinator, PG Department of Physics Dr E Deepak D’Silva welcomed the gathering. Chaithra V proposed the vote of thanks. Joyline M Rodrigues compered the programme.
