Footballers support fight against climate change

Marrakech (Morocco), Nov 8 (IANS): A delegation of footballers, led by Ghanaian star Abedi Pele, on Tuesday visited the tent village of Bab Ighli here to express their support for the fight against climate change, summit organisers said.

Abedi Pele highlighted the role that sports stars have to play to promote noble causes such as the fight against climate change, insisting that Morocco is making significant efforts by hosting an event of such importance.

Rene Higuita, the famous Colombian goalkeeper, said humanity must unite to act against this phenomenon that touches all countries across the globe.

At the end of their visit, the footballers took a family photo in front of the monumental gate of the main plenary made of wood in Moroccan traditional style.

Former Moroccan football stars, including Noureddine Naybet, were also among the visitors.

The 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties and the 12th session of the Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 12) that began on Monday are scheduled to be held here till November 18.
