Bantwal, Nov 9: A burglary in which thieves took away 14 sovereigns of gold ornaments from the residential quarters of a health assistant attached to the government primary health centre at Alike village near Vittal came to light on Tuesday November 8 morning.

Jyoti, working as health assistant at Alike, had visited her quarters on Monday morning. On her return to her quarters on Tuesday morning at around 9.20 am, she found that her house had been burgled. Things had been scattered around inside the room of the house. Several gold ornaments totally weighing 112 grams which were kept in the cupboard had gone missing.

It is learnt that the lock of the front door was broken open by thieves to gain entry into the house. Vittal police sub-inspector, Prakash Devadiga and staff, finger print experts from Mangaluru and sniffer dogs were summoned to help in investigation.

The sniffer dog ran for about 200 metres from the house before indicating the way in which the thieves decamped. There is strong suspicion that people known to the health assistant would have committed this theft. A case stands registered at Vittal police station on the incident.
