Mangaluru, Nov 10: A case stands registered in Barke police station in the city about the alleged attack twice on under-trial prisoner, Abdul Nawaz, currently lodged in the district prison here, by fellow prisoners. Nawaz says that murder attempt was made on him by others in the jail twice.

Nawaz was arrested in connection with the theft of cows which had happened in the limits of Bajpe police station. After arresting him on November 5, he was produced in court, whereupon he was remanded to judicial custody. He later complained that two prisoners, Muqtar and Arish, who were also lodged in the same cell as his, attacked him with a steel vessel and a drum, forcing him to supply them with cellphone and cash.

After this incident, Nawaz was shifted to another cell. On Tuesday November 8, it is said that other inmates of this cell, Faizal, Nawaz, and Suhail, assaulted him, demanded him to bring cash for them, and posed death threat. He was pushed to the ground and an attempt to kill him was made, he claims.
