Udupi: Science fair ‘Brain Quest’ held at MGM College campus

Udupi, Nov 13: High school students exhibited their ample talents at ‘Brain Quest 2016’ the annual district-level science and technology fair and competition at Nutana Ravindra Mantapa at MGM College campus here on Saturday, November 12.

Students exhibited their research models and explained them to visitors. Hand crafts, self-made ornaments, flowers, drawings, books and other things were put for exhibition. 

Two children prepared unique natural flower pots which were made of papers and vegetable leaves instead of usual plastic pots. Ajith, Malappa, Ranjith from Government Higher Primary School, Ajjarkad designed electric fence to protect crops from wild animals. 

Grass cutting tool, invented by students was also put for exhibition. A team from Siddhi Vinayaka residential school from Kundapur showcased paintings, cosmetics. Crafts made by Sneha, Pratiksha and Rashmi were also part of the fair. These items were also put for sale. The collected money will be contributed to martyr’s fund.

Government PU college students designed straddling bus as pilot project. The special features of this bus was extra-wide and extra-tall vehicle where smaller vehicles can pass beneath it. It runs through solar power. 

A team of students from Little Rock English medium school designed a model of solar-powered desalination unit to produce fresh water from salt water.

Deekshit and Akshay from Hebri high school exhibited solar dryer. The solar dryer was made of a wooden box painted black. The black colour would absorb sunlight and convert it to heat thereby help the dryer to function.  

According to the Poornima Kamath, E-Skool director, “The brain quest competition helps students to think on new subjects. The exhibition will motivate them to do more experiments. Nearly 300 students participated from 20 different schools. This time every winner will receive voucher of Rs 100 instead of prizes.” 

The district-level science and technology contest is being conducted for the 12th consecutive year.
