Mangalore, Jan 10: A flute concert by renowned artiste Hariprasad Chaurasia was organized as part of SPIC-MACAY fest at NIT-K golden jubilee auditorium, Suratkal near here on Tuesday January 8.

The flute recital mesmerized the audience and kept them tapping their feet all through. A large number of students and senior citizens made up the audience.

The programme began with Raag Multani welcoming the moon. This was followed by Raag Bhoopali after 45 minutes.

Chaurasia introduced every piece before its recital. In explanation to Raag Bhoopali he said that the raag is  known as Mohana in the south.

Chaurasia showed his lighter side when the audience requested him to play some particular pieces and he replied it was not possible to play all the Raagas as children may miss their dinner.

Students too interacted with Chaurasia and requested him to play Todi, Bhairavi, Pahadi Dhun and Shivaranjani pieces. Chaurasia acknowledged the students’ knowledge of music but as the time was limited he agreed to play Pahadi Dhun and said that Todi and Bhairavi were to be played only in the morning.

At the end of the programme students gathered around him to talk and seek his blessings as well as to click photographs. Even the senior citizens where excited to see and meet him.

He was accompanied by Sunil Avachat who played bansuri, Raveendra who played tabla and Shankar Shenoy who played on the tanpura.
