Note ban has led to 'financial chaos', say bank unions

Vadodara, Nov 14 (PTI): Two leading bank unions today criticised the government over demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, saying the move has led to "financial chaos" across the country. In a letter to Indian Banks' Association (IBA), All India Bank Officers' Association (AIBOA) and All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) said the decision to withdraw the high-value notes was taken without proper planning or preparation.

They also highlighted heavy work pressure on employees and officers at bank branches in the wake of demonetisation which has led to customers rushing to exchange the now defunct notes. "Chaotic situation is prevailing at the bank branches and this is unbearable for both customers as well as bank employees and officers," S Nagarajan, General Secretary of AIBOA, and C H Venkatachalam, his counterpart at AIBEA, said in the letter to IBA, the apex body of bank managements.

There is a huge shortage of Rs 100 notes which are now in great demand for routine needs, while most customers are not willing to accept the new Rs 2,000 bill, they said. "The Centre and the Reserve Bank must be fully aware that already there is a huge gap between the indent and supply of Rs 100 notes.

"For example, in 2015-16, as against the indent of 535 crore pieces of Rs 100 notes, the supply received was only to the tune of 490 crore pieces," according to the letter. "One cannot understand the reason behind banning the existing Rs 500 notes and not providing new supply of Rs 500 notes in time," it added.

Most of the 2.20 lakh ATMs across the country are closed or partly functional. This has put additional pressure on the staff and customers are compelled to visit branches to withdraw cash from their accounts, the two unions said.

Nagarajan and Venkatachalam requested the IBA to ensure the RBI supplies adequate cash in denominations of Rs 100 and new Rs 500 notes to ease pressure on banks and provide relief to customers.

God bless the bank & postal dept employees who are silently bearing the brunt of customers anger with patience. They are overworked, stressed and abused by innocent customers who cannot but hold the Governments' financial representative ie., the bank employee. Truth is now getting unveiled as to how unprepared and hurriedly the decision was taken by a constable called Modi. Asking his Ministers to leave the mobile outside the cabinet meet venue is a political stunt to prove a false image of honesty. On regular days our ATMs are either down without cash or due to network problem or due to defect in the machine. Imagine in such a serious situation how effective would the ATM function. Parliament should take it up aggressively and bring to the fore the press reports on prior information published by the media.

On a lighter side...., the situation is like this...,

a hero standing at the 10th floor of a building...., watching & looking at his hysterically clapping fans who shouting him to Jump....!!!, But the elated hero responded by jumping just to keep his fans happy..,

Now the situation is like.., fans are still clapping & waiting for the HERO to get up & come to receive the heroic welcome & garland...!

Not sure.., whether the fans get the chance to Garland him or not...,

This can only happen in DOMBARATA..,

Over 2 million trucks in India are carrying consumer goods and many items 80% of their monetary transactions are in Rs, and the main currency units are 500 and 1000. Likewise, India being a country of high percentage in currency transactions, mainly in the 500 and 1000 currency notes. This action by the PM of India enacted so secretly like an imperialist did was totally an irrational and autocratic action. Its aftermath will be far reaching at the economy in every side in the days to come. The Indian economy will be shrinking due to the low volume of currency transactions.

Now it's clear why the bright boy Raguram Rajan didn't take second term. He certainly didn't want to be a part of this mess. Anyway his exit facilitated installation of yet another Gujju and blue eyed boy of corporate world in his position. But most though R3's replacement by UP was to ease out PM's communication issues. Now he can say 'Kem cho'

The new Reserve Bank Governor will be a true obedient student of Modi-Arun Jaitly-Amith Shaw brain giants. Dr. Rajan was not such an obedient slave, so smoked him out politically. He never would have allowed this currency demonization because he is a smart well known world ranking Economist.

As PM he must respond to the following 3 basic questions.

    1. WHY WAS SUCH A CRITICAL DECISION UTED DURING A PERIOD WHEN RABI CROP WAS READY TO BE SOWN AND MARRIAGE SESSION WAS TO COMMENCE? FORGET ABOUT MARRIAGES, HAVEN’T YOU PLAYED MISCHIEF WITH THE FOOD SECURITY OF THE INDIANS AS RABI CROP GIVES US WHEAT?

    2. WHY ARE BANKS NOT OPENING AS PER THE TIMINGS ANNOUNCED BY YOUR GOVERNMENT AND SHUTTERING DOWN AFTER EVERY 3-4 HOURS FOR WANT OF CASH? WHY ARE COMMON INDIANS WHO WANT RS 2000/4000 OF THEIR OWN MONEY FROM BANKS HAVE BEEN REDUCED TO BEGGARS?

    3. YOU TOLD THAT THIS POLICY OF DEMONETIZATION WAS IN-MAKING FOR LAST 10 MONTHS, WHY IS IT THAT MOST OF THE ATMS ARE NON-FUNCTIONAL OR REMAIN OUT OF CASH FOR MOST OF THE DAY?

Emotional blackmail should be stopped.Citizens are dying.Business losses are mounting as there are no currency to trade.

Now people are smart they won't listen to you any more and put you in the place where you belong forever and that blunder will not return, be patient.

Kindly don't abuse and curse Bank staff and employees. They say they are performing their duty at the best they can. Presently they don't have enough cash due to non-availability of denominational currency. 100 rupee and 50 rupee notes.

The banks have already less staff. There are many vacant positions unfilled. Retired personnel are moving out and no replacements via recruitment.

    FROM RELIABLE SOURCES:

BRAND NEW, NEW 100 RUPEE NOTES AND BRAND NEW, NEW 50 RUPEE NOTES ARE SEEN IN THE BANKS WHICH WERE HIDDEN IN THEIR HOUSES.
