Udupi, Jan 10: University-level Science Fest organised by science association of Milagres College, Kallianpur was inaugurated at the college premises here on Thursday January 10 by Dr K M Balakrishna, chairman and HoD of Physics, Mangalore University.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Balakrishna called upon the young people to take up basic sciences and research as their field of study. If basic sciences are neglected there will not be people available to improve technology in a few years from now and that will be a disaster for human beings, he said.

Principal Fr Fred Mascarenhas presided. He too stressed on the need to popularise basic sciences.

Santhosh, president of science association welcomed the gathering. Loyleeta D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Smitha Lewis compered. The students of colleges affiliated to Manglore University are taking part in model-making competition, seminar competitions and quiz. The late Fr G L D Cruz memorial science lecture competition will also be held.
