Mangalore: KMC Hostels' Infrastructure Upgraded

Vasanthi R Pai, chairperson of the Hostels Committee of Manipal University inaugurated the renovated rooms and new dining hall with state-of-the-art facilities at the city's Kasturba Medical College's Men's Hostel at Kaprigudda in Attavar on Thursday January 10. 

Vasanthi, who is also the wife of Dr Ramdas M Pai, the Chancellor of Manipal University and president of the Manipal Education and Medical Group, inaugurated the renovated facilities at the Hostel. The Hostel is WiFi enabled as well as has two Internet Centres apart from facilites for sports and entertainment. 

The hostel was inaugurated way back in 1966 in the month of January by the then Governor of Maharashtra, Dr P V Cherian in the presence of Padmashree the late Dr Tonse Madhav Ananth Pai, founder of the Manipal Group. It has remained a popular and known place in the city since then with hundreds of its former residents spread successfully across the country and globe.
 
The several National and international students of the University's three constituent colleges in Mangalore –the Kasturba Medical College, the Manipal College of Dental Sciences, and the Manipal College of Nursing in the city reside in hostels managed and run by the Manipal Group.

Vasanthi was accompanied by Dr Pushpa Kini, director of student affairs at Manipal University and senior members and wardens of the Hostel Committee from Manipal and Mangalore. At the inauguration senior college administrators like Dr Surendra Shetty, Dr CV Raghuveer, Dr MV Prabhu, Dr Anand Kini, Dr Dilip Nayak and Juliana D'Sa of the three colleges were present among other officials.
 
Vasanthi reiterated the Manipal University's commitment to provide its students with best of facilities and environment to help them live comfortably  while they excell professionally.
 
The hostels of the Manipal University at Mangalore include the KapriGudda Men's Hostel and Nandgiri Ladies Hostel for undergraduates, the Falnir Men's Hostel and Priya Ladies Hostel for doctors and post-graduate students. A separate hostel for boys and girls in the first year of their college has been set up at Bejai and Lalbagh to avoid any incidents of ragging as well as to provide a healthy environment for students to interact. A completely air conditioned hostel has been set up for students at Sturrock. Fitting of modern cooking gadgets in the kitchens and large scale renovation and upgradation work is on in these hostels in the city.
