Kundapur, Jan 11:
Renowned singer Dr K J Yesudas visited Kollur and celebrated his 68th birthday by performing religious rite at Shri Mookambika Temple at Kollur near here on Thursday January 10.

Yesudas participated in the Chandika Hom and dedicated a musical concert at the feet of Goddess Mookambika. He further officiated ‘Vidyarambha’ (initiation of education) to a child at Saraswathi Mantap.

Addressing the gathering at the inaugural function of Smritivana, a forest park at Anejari near here, he said that human beings are very selfish and never think while cutting the trees. One never understands that trees are like Munis (sages), they silently suffer the torture mounted on them by the human beings. Forest is a treasure which everyone should protect for the ecological balance.

R K Sirvasthava, deputy conservator, Forest of Kundapur Division, RFO Bhaskar Rao, Krishnaprasad Adyanthaya, managing trustee, Sri Mookambika Temple, Jaya Prakash Shetty, president, Kollur Grama Panchayat and Dr Srikanth, president, Eco Development Committee were present on this occasion.

This again shows the religious divesity of this country. Yesudas as name suggest a christian person going and worshipping in Hindu godess. There are crores of people who are from different religion but goes to all the worship place in the world ( some for gain(karma kanda) and some liberation( karma yoga)). these people are responsible for uniting the devided world

It is hard to agree that trees suffer. No doibt JC Bose has shown that Plants have life long back, but todate no one has conclusively proved that plants have 'Suffering', 'emotion'. In fact they have no nervous system. Just to prove the point, Mr Jesudas, did you not use the firewood for the Yagna that you did?

I am not arguing for felling trees, far from it. I am just highlighting the fallacy of argument. I strongly believe that Forests should be preserved with as least human intervention as possible. Why? Among many other things, they provide succour and shelter to trillions of living beings which have 'feelings'. Without forests many species could not survive. So we need to save these precious nature gifts
