Kundapur, Nov 18: A sudden spurt in the level of sea water caused saline water to enter agricultural fields located near Sun Castle Resort near Byalihitlu, Amasekadu near Beejady here, as a result of which large tracts of agricultural fields and farm lands were damaged.

Surging salt water from the sea pushed aside sand on the beach and rushed into fields and houses nearby. As a result vegetables grown in a large area has been adversely affected. As planks have not been fixed to the vented dam here, salt water has directly flown into courtyards of several houses besides fields. Vegetables like amaranth, spinach, snake gourd, lentils, tomato, okra, green chilly etc grown by a number of farmers have been extensively damaged.

Local farmers said that they used to grow vegetables after the customary khariff season crops by using organic manure. They pointed out that because saline water entered their fields they have lost their harvest. They have urged the local administration to see that planks are fixed to the vented dam to stop salt water from spoiling their fields.
