'Safai' worker wants loan waived off like Mallya

Mumbai, Nov 21 (PTI): Amid controversy over SBI reportedly writing off loans worth Rs 7,000 crore, a sanitation worker in Nashik has written to the public sector lender, seeking a waiver of his Rs 1.5 lakh loan.

Bhaurao Sonawane, a ‘safai’ worker with the Tryambakeshawar municipal council in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, said he had written to SBI, seeking waiver of his loan, “in the same manner in which the bank waived off Vijay Mallya’s loan”.

“I have written to the bank, congratulating it for the ‘good decision’ to waive off Mallya’s loan. I requested SBI to waive off my loan as well,” Sonawane said.

“I took this loan to meet expenses on my son’s illness,” he said, adding that the bank manager is yet to respond to the letter.

Sonawane’s demand comes against the backdrop of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley asking opposition members in the Rajya Sabha not to go by the literal meaning of write-off.

“So there is a little bit of malapropism involved in this. Don’t go by the literal meaning write-off. Write-off does not mean loan waiver. Loan still remains. You still continue to pursue,” Jaitley had said, during a debate in the House on the government’s demonetisation action.

Jaitley was replying to CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, who referred to a newspaper report, which said SBI wrote off loans of wilful defaulters, including Rs 1,200 crore of Kingfisher Airlines.

Can't blame these uneducated poor guys when educated in the media and politics cannot make out a difference between write off and waive off. UPA came to power by 'waiving off' loans in 2009, thus beating anti-incumbency. Poor people will be fooled by political parties like congress and they will remain poor forever if they believe them

The number of 'disagree' also indicates the level of frustration of people supporting congress. I merely stated facts :-). They want to make Mallya the poster boy of their come back while shooting off the shoulders of poor people. If Mallya actually opens his mouth most politicians including those of BJP, JDS and Congress have nowhere to hide. This is one of the reasons why they are discrediting him so that whenever he opens his mouth, these chors can claim being framed by an outlaw.

Sonawane saheb, tumchi kasli logic hai ho ? Hasa kasa honar ? Tuhmi baga municipality safai karne wale ani Mallya baga bank safai karne wale.
(Sonawane sir, what type of your logic ? How it is possible ? You are municipality cleaner and Mallya is bank cleaner).
