Udupi, Nov 22: In an incident which occurred at Kalya near Kaup on Sunday, November 20 in the district, a person ended his life by consuming poisonous chemical. It is gathered that this chemical in liquid form was meant to be used for painting his home.

The deceased was Shankar Poojary (54), who belonged to Kalya in Uliyaragoly village near Kaup. Poojary worked as coolie. At around 3.30 pm on Sunday, he had consumed the said chemical for unknown reasons. A little while later, he was found writhing on the floor on account of acute pain in the stomach. He was taken to a private hospital in the city immediately, from where he was referred to KMC Hospital Manipal as he was found to be in need of sophisticated treatment.

The doctors at the  hospital said that Poojary died on Sunday night, without responding to treatments given to save him. Kaup police have registered a case relating to his death and investigation is continuing.

Shankar Poojary has left behind wife and two daughters.
