Akhilesh Yadav suspends SP, SO for lathicharge on people standing in bank queue

Lucknow, Nov 23 (Agencies) : Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday suspended Superintendent of Police (SP) of Fatehpur district Ram Kishore and Station Officer (SO) of Kishanpur police station Sanjay Kumar Yadav, taking cognisance of a video showing a homeguard cane-charging people queued up outside a bank.

In the video, which has gone viral, the homeguard is seen beating up people waiting in a queue outside the State Bank of India’s Kishanpur branch on Monday afternoon. None of the people who were beaten up have contacted any official or lodged a complaint regarding the incident so far.

A government spokesperson in a statement confirmed the suspension of the two officers, while DGP Javeed Ahmed said they had been suspended for dereliction of duty. “After coming to know about the incident, I recommended suspension of the homeguard to the commandant homeguard, after which he was suspended,” said outgoing SP Ram Kishore. A non-cognizable report (NCR) has also been lodged at Kishanpur police station against the homeguard, Gulab Singh Yadav, who was deployed outside the bank where people were waiting to exchange currency.

“In the afternoon, some people standing in the queue misbehaved with Gulab Singh, after which he got angry and started beating them up,” said suspended SO Sanjay Kumar. Atul Kumar Chaubey, circle officer, Kishanpur area, said they came to know about the incident after watching the video on Monday, after which he informed senior officials.

    What a ruthless Police officer.
Problems to the poor pouring from every corner. The should be dismissed from their posts. Let them stand in the queue to realize common mans hardship. Such blind & rude action is deplorable and PM should address on National TV and should warn the security or police personnel who treat the humans worse than animals.
