Mangaluru: Swara Raaga Sudha concert performed at Expert PU College

Mangaluru, Nov 23: I PUC students of Expert PU College, Valachil were spellbound by the magnificent virtuosity and impeccable taankaari of Pandit Jayateerth Mevundi, the celebrated Hindustani classical vocalist. This sublime concert was second in the series titled 'Swara Raaga Sudha - 2016'.

He was accompanied by professor Narendra L Nayak, chairman, Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation on the harmonium; Uday Kulkarni, the eminent rhythmic maestro, on the tabla; Raghavendra Mallya, an established percussionist, on the Pakhawaj and Muralidhara Shenoy on the hand cymbals (taala).

Pandit Mevundi enchanted the students by singing a delightful composition in Raag Jog set to Rupak taal and then presented the famous bhajan 'Tumaka Tumaka Paga Kumaka Kunja Maga Chapala Charana Hari Aaye' with all its lilting folk charm.



Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-chairperson, Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation felicitated the artistes by presenting mementos to them.

Captain Ganesh Karnik, MLC (teachers’ constituency) and opposition party chief whip; Ankush N Nayak, alumnus, Expert PU College; Ustad Rafique Khan, trustee; Dr N K Vijayan, principal and N Gurudutt, vice-principal graced the programme.

Sahana Manjappa Girthimalli, I PUC student (H-1 batch) introduced the artistes. Ayesha Mahreen, I PUC student (G-1 batch) welcomed the gathering and compered the event. Shambhavi H P I PUC student (E-1 batch) proposed the formal vote of thanks.

Dr Viju B Kammath, faculty, chemistry department and programme director of 'Swara Raaga Sudha - 2016', co-ordinated the programme.
